Dating of human footprints

Science published our article about a new dating results on fossil human footprints, embedded in travertine in the Tibetan Himalaya. The footprints were found at an elevation of 4500 m and indicate a permanent human occupation of the area. U-series (U-Th) dating of travertine, was one of several methods used to constrain the age of the footprints. The travertine has an age between 8,000 - 12,000 years, thus humans were settling in the Tibet Plateau area at least 8,000 years ago. Our results were published in Science and here is a comment in Nature.
